Rusalnaia's self-titled album is a hauntingly beautiful collection of songs that transport listeners to a mystical world. The duo, comprising of Alyssa Midcalf and Sharron Kraus, weaves together a tapestry of ethereal vocals and intricate instrumentation, creating a mesmerizing blend of folk and experimental music.
The album's opener, "Song of the Selkie," sets the tone for the rest of the record, with its haunting melody and Midcalf's enchanting vocals. "Lament of the Sea" is another standout track, with its hypnotic rhythm and Kraus's intricate guitar work. The album's centerpiece, "Rusalnaia," is a stunning tribute to the Russian water spirits that inspired the duo's name, with its intricate harp and Midcalf's soaring vocals.
The album's production is top-notch, with each instrument and vocal layer perfectly balanced to create a rich and immersive listening experience. The duo's use of traditional folk instruments, such as the harp and the hurdy-gurdy, adds an authentic and organic feel to the record.
