Review by Matt Heerema

Chapter One Latin America by Gato Barbieri is a musical masterpiece that showcases the artist's exceptional talent and passion for Latin American music. The album features a collection of soulful and vibrant tracks that take listeners on a musical journey through the diverse and rich cultures of Latin America.

From the opening track "El Gato" to the closing song "Viva Emiliano Zapata," each track on the album is a testament to Barbieri's ability to blend different musical genres seamlessly. The album is a perfect fusion of jazz, Latin, and rock music, with each track featuring Barbieri's signature saxophone sound that is both emotive and powerful.

Comments

This was heard so many years ago I cannot even recall when I bought the vinyl copy. Am listening right now and am amazed at how fresh it sounds. Like a street corner jam in Rio. El Gato is at his rawest and more free than anything I can remember in his catalog. Give it a shot but don't expect any sort of smooth jazz or pop jazz leanings. This is world music at its' finest. So many things going on it almost careens off the rails but the rhythm section holds it all together.
Italyyyyyyy thanks gato!!!!!!!!!!
En el dia qie se fue el Gato...muchas gracisa Mario Fuentes for la sellecciòn de las imagens. El sonido se va por el aire, como el alma del Gato.....

Song Long Dear Teacher Gato,,,,you went too soon and you will be missed,,,Thank you for music without equal,,,
You were one in a MILLION Once in a Lifetime,,,,,
Isso é mágico, é lindo!
Aplausos do Brasil!
To me ,,this was the "real Gato"
This was my favorite period of works in his life,,,
No one can deny the "soul cry" the unblemished passion in these early works
Specifically the "America Latina"chapters works originally released on Impulse Records
If you want to hear the "real Gato" the raw unvarnished primal Gato at the peak of his powers, his most robust pristine Saxophone tone, then buy and play these recordings,,,,,they will elevate your mood and elevate your life,,,,
Man I wish he hadn't stop playing this kind of stuff.
