Barcode (Scan): 5013929921108About REO Speedwagon
Rock band from Champaign, Illinois, USA. They named the band , from the REO Speed Wagon, a 1915 truck that was designed by Ransom Eli Olds. Doughty had seen the name written across the blackboard when he walked into his History of Transportation class on the very first day they had decided to look for a name. Rather than pronouncing REO as a single word as the motor company did, they chose to spell out the name with the individual letters each pronounced ("R-E-O").
Formed in 1967, the band cultivated a following during the 1970s and achieved significant commercial success throughout the 1980s. (1980) contained four US Top 40 hits and is the group's best-selling album, with over ten million copies sold.

Comments
REO Speedwagon's The Classic Years 9-disc box set seemingly does a much better job than its predecessor at pleasing the dedicated. Like its predecessor, The Early Years, it covers all (7) of their (remastered) studio albums from the period but betters its predecessor by adding bonus material that makes it more of a compelling get. Most notably, it includes the spectacular 1978 promo release, "Live Again," as well as, "The Crystal Demos," which were originally released on the Hi Infidelity 30th Anniversary Edition, and it caps off the bonus selections with an entire disc of live cuts from 1980-1990. Considering all of this as well as featured bonus tracks of single edits and sundry other non-album tracks from the period, it appears that the set's compilers put a little more effort into this edition than the previous one. Accordingly, this compilation represents a sort of clearinghouse for all things REO from 1978-1990 and, consequently, REO's most commercially successful period is made comprehensively available in a single package for the first time ever. Don't sleep on it.
