The Family Cat - Goldenbook

Review by Mari Adkins

Goldenbook, the third studio album by the British indie rock band Family Cat, is a beautifully crafted piece of art that showcases the band's musical prowess and versatility. Released in 1994, the album features a mix of catchy guitar riffs, introspective lyrics, and a wide range of musical influences that make it an engaging and memorable listening experience.

The album's opening track, "Steamroller," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its upbeat tempo and catchy guitar hooks. The album then moves into more introspective territory with tracks like "Goldenbook" and "Wonderful Excuse," which showcase the band's ability to create poignant and thought-provoking lyrics.

Throughout the album, the band draws on a wide range of musical influences, from the jangly guitars of 60s pop to the more experimental sounds of 90s indie rock. This gives the album a unique sound that is both familiar and fresh at the same time.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "River of Diamonds," which features a haunting melody and a beautiful vocal performance from lead singer Paul Frederick. The song is a perfect example of the band's ability to create emotionally resonant music that stays with the listener long after the album has ended.
