Cruachan - Folk Lore

Review by Juan Jose Prado

Folk Lore, the latest album from Irish folk metal band Cruachan, is a fantastic addition to their discography. The album features a mix of traditional Irish folk music with heavy metal instrumentation, creating a unique and powerful sound.

The album opens with the track "Is Fuair An Chroí", which immediately sets the tone for the rest of the album with its driving drums and soaring vocals. Other standout tracks include "The Harp, The Lion, The Dragon and The Sword", which features a beautiful duet between vocalist Karen Gilligan and guest singer John Ryan, and "The Hawthorn", a haunting ballad that showcases the band's ability to create atmosphere.

Throughout the album, Cruachan seamlessly blends traditional Irish instruments like the bodhrán and tin whistle with electric guitars and drums, creating a sound that is both authentic and modern. The lyrics, which are primarily in Irish Gaelic, add to the album's folk feel.

Summary by Juan Jose Prado

Folk Lore is a must-listen for fans of folk metal and traditional Irish music. Cruachan has once again proven themselves to be masters of the genre, and this album is sure to be a favorite among their fans.

Comments

Hands down one of the greatest albums in that genere!
The last thing Cruachan wanted to be seen like was as sad Nordic nostalgics who wanted desperately to time-travel between eras to return to the Medieval Era, if not before Christ. Fortunately, Irish aren't known to be depressed as their British counterparts: for that matter, the band wasn't even showing signs of slowing down on their third album: instead, it's like they were realizing they were becoming one of the extremely rare Heavy Metal promises coming from their homeland since the days of Thin Lizzy. As usual, there are ridiculous songs with drunken harmonies and single-string guitar lines, but there are also numbers who show Keith Fay's brand new Drop D tuning and a pair of entertaining Irish folk numbers ("The Rocky Road to Dublin", in particular, sounds literally insane). The band's schizophrenic nature, highlighted by moments of joy when celebrating fertility and alcohol alternated with others of serious drama when telling tales of imaginary heroes or during funerals, prevent this album from being more than decent. Cruachan may decant Irish pride and nationalism, but Ireland is much more than that: for example, computers, press offices, postal services. whatever else.Highlights: "The Rocky Road to Dublin", "Spancill Hill", "Exiles".
Q genial música para empezar el día motivado. No sé cómo han pasado tantos años desde q los oi y me siguen dando energía, escuchar metal es como la energía eólica, siempre se renueva y me impulsa aunq se vea igual.
