Messa Da Requiem is a masterpiece by the legendary composer Verdi, performed by a stellar cast of singers and musicians. The album features the incredible voices of Caniglia, Stignani, Gigli, and Pinza, who bring the requiem to life with their powerful and emotive performances. The Orchestra e Coro Del Teatro Dell'Opera Di Roma, under the direction of Tullio Serafin, provides a rich and dramatic sound that perfectly complements the singers. The album is a must-listen for classical music lovers, and a testament to Verdi's enduring legacy as one of the greatest composers of all time. Messa Da Requiem is a stunning and unforgettable musical experience that will move listeners to their core.

Thank you so much for posting this.
Serafin does not mess around; this is the fastest version I know. Caniglia isn't the most delicate soprano you'll ever hear, and not always in tune. Gigli's voice is absolutely gorgeous, and Stignani is terrific, but the star here is Pinza.
Es tal vez< la mejor interpretación del Réquiem de Verdi que se haya grabado. Muchas gracias por rescatarla.
DIE BESTE AUFNAHME DES VERDI REQIUIEMS
Un'edizione stupenda del capolavoro verdiano
The only Requiem recording. Gigli sings like an angel.
Bellissimo! Grazie
Caniglia is a towering spinto/ dramatico soprano .....every bit the equal of MariaCallas in my view.....minus the later vibrato problems of Callas.....not certain what year Caniglia retired.....the '56 Tosca is the last recording I am aware of .
SERAFIN as conductor ....the equal of Toscaninni...
I was given this complete recording on 78s for Christmas 1953 , over the years hearing other recordings I believe this remains the best recording ever for the 4 principal soloists superb singing . Another recording that is a near equal is with the young Pavarotti conducted by Karajan . Here Tullio Serafin conducts with an urgency and passion .
wonderful best record of verdi requiem mass
+ R.I.P. Everyone involved in this.
I have the Ward Marston transfer to CD on Naxos. Cleaner, worth every penny. Why do I hear things in this I miss  in the modern versions ?
Magnificen!!!t
Serafin meglio di Toscanini e di De Sabata.
un gioiello .
A wonderful performance indeed. Eclipses the Toscanini that I have on CD, for sheer humanity. Will see Muti live tomorrow, let`s see how it will compare :-).
Bravi a tutti!!
Great! Performance!
Caniglia - Stignani: straordinario Recordare. Grazie davidhertzberg.
The Orchestra and Chorus of the Royal Opera House, Director Tullio Serafin
This historic performance !!!
This is wonderful. The soloists all give perfect performances. The modern offerings of this work are so disappointing because while the orchestras are great the singers are awful.
this is gods Music........Verdi was not an Atheist.......no great Music was ever composed by an Atheist......Facts and love from vienna austria
oh MAN. Thank you! I love this Verdi 'opera'....... Have been wanting to hear this version for years and years. My favorite so far is the '64 Guilini with Schwarzkopf/Gedda/Ludwig and Ghiaurov. Thanks again David.
Verdi / Caniglia / Gigli / Pinza / Stignani, 1939: Requiem Mass - Tullio Serafin - Complete, Indexed
This was a fabulous performance.  I love all the soloists, together and each alone.  Pinza is particularly outstanding.  Thank you!  My old recording is no longer in the best condition.
I like all the performers on this recording.   Last month I bought the same performance on Angel's Great Recordings of the Century series.  I didn't know that this was also issued on RCA Collector's label.  I haven't listened to my copy yet, but it will be interesting to compare the two.
This is still the best Requiem of all times, unsurpassable, in spide of the old technicallities of the recording that couldn´t catch the beauty of their voices in its totallity...
LP... I do not know anything about CDs, although I have seen pictures of them in magazines.
