Empty, the seventh studio album by the American-Scottish alternative rock band Garbage, is a powerful and introspective work that showcases the band's ability to reinvent themselves while staying true to their signature sound. Released in May 2016, the album features eleven tracks that explore themes of loss, longing, and self-discovery with a raw and emotional intensity.
From the haunting opening track "Sometimes" to the anthemic closing ballad "Amends," Empty is a cohesive and immersive listening experience that draws the listener into a world of dark beauty and vulnerability. Lead vocalist Shirley Manson delivers some of her most soulful and evocative performances to date, while the band's instrumentation and production are both rich and dynamic.
Highlights of the album include the brooding and atmospheric "So We Can Stay Alive," the pulsing and danceable "Night Drive Loneliness," and the haunting and melancholic "Magnetized." However, every track on Empty has its own unique character and contributes to the overall mood and narrative of the album.
My freedom band.
I couldn't agree more.
When I first heard "Empty" I was slightly let down and couldn't help my bitch- self from thinking, "if we're so 'empty,' perhaps we should find some inspiration before we finish this song" ??
