Velma - Cyclique

Review by José Juan Domínguez Herreros

Cyclique by Velma is a sonic journey that takes listeners on a mesmerizing ride through various soundscapes. The album is a blend of experimental rock, electronic music, and avant-garde sounds that create a unique and captivating listening experience. The French band has crafted an album that is both complex and accessible, with tracks that are both intricate and catchy.

The album kicks off with "I Was Born in a Laundromat," a track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The song features a pulsing beat and swirling synths that create a hypnotic atmosphere. "Le Fil du Rasoir" is another standout track, with its stuttering rhythm and glitchy electronics. "Cyclique" is a slow-burning track that builds to a powerful climax, while "Le Brouillard" is a haunting and atmospheric piece that showcases the band's ability to create mood and atmosphere.

About Velma

Velma challenge the codes of the artistic genres in their quest for new forms of performance. Emerged from rock and electronic music clubs where Velma still surprises the audience, Christian Garcia, Christophe Jaquet and Stephane Vecchione have been creating musical performances since 1999. They have developped a unique style of projecting music into the very heart of the dramatical set up. Velma offers music a new space, a space in which music is not at the service of the story, simple effect or decoration but where everything serves music. To open up towards theatre the three artists have worked together with dancers, actors, performers and VJs. Their first concert-performances Cyclique I&II (1999, 2000) and Applique (2000) surprised and fascinated the audience of that time.
