Minikin - Save The Earth

Review by Gary Trotman

Minikin's album Save The Earth is a powerful and thought-provoking collection of songs that tackle important environmental issues. From the urgent call to action in the opening track "Wake Up" to the hauntingly beautiful "Fading Away," the album is a journey through the beauty and fragility of our planet.

The band's sound is a unique blend of indie rock and folk, with intricate guitar work and soaring vocal harmonies that give each song a sense of urgency and emotion. The lyrics are equally impressive, with each track offering a different perspective on the impact of climate change and the need for urgent action.

One standout track is "Rising Seas," a haunting ballad that paints a vivid picture of the devastation caused by rising sea levels. The lyrics are raw and honest, and the melody is both beautiful and haunting. Another standout track is "The Last Tree," a powerful call to action that urges listeners to take responsibility for the future of our planet.

Notes

  • With an insistent yet progressive opening slant, the track doesn’t make itself immediately obviousin terms of direction, leaving you to make up your own mind. Things soon progress with a minimal groove, warping electronics and sweeping effects, before the pace picks up somewhat, as things reach a level of restrained crescendo.
  • Bleeps surround a repeating message to ‘Save The Earth’ before the beat comes back in. The accompaniment surrounds you, enveloping you in a futuristic world of music. The track develops in stages, working its way through emotions and mental states. Melody wends its way in later on, via an off-kilter pattern of bass and beats, light and shade.
  • Minikin inhabits a universe of unusual and unique sonic experimentation. He is at one moment contemplative in old skool-influenced reactions, the next heading firmly into the future. One moment Blade Runner, the next The Matrix, perhaps. Journey through the marketplace of forward- thinking funk with Save The Earth.

  • Minikin represents the new generation of European electronic music. Hailing from Kiev in Ukraine, his career to date has seen releases on Rag & Bone, Input-Output and his material has been featured on a compilation album from Ministry Of Sound.
  • Now, the ex-co-owner of the Kievbass has decided that the world is ready for a release on the red hot Bass Me imprint. With support from Laurent Garnier, Crookers, Ed Solo and Kickflip, amongst many more, it’s not hard to see that his electro- tinged post-garage will go down a storm in the clubs in 2013. His hard work and progression are set to pay off in a big way, and you better prepare yourselves for the aural delight which is Save The Earth.
