Review by Antonella Muscillo

The album "Missa Solemnis D Dur Op 123" by Ludwig Van Beethoven, performed by the Philharmonia Orchester London and conducted by Herbert Von Karajan, is an exceptional piece of classical music. The album consists of five movements, each of which showcases the immense talent of Beethoven and the orchestra.

The first movement, "Kyrie," is a powerful and solemn piece that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The choir and orchestra work together seamlessly to create a hauntingly beautiful sound that is both awe-inspiring and humbling.

The second movement, "Gloria," is a joyful and uplifting piece that showcases the orchestra's technical prowess. The choir's soaring vocals are perfectly complemented by the orchestra's intricate melodies, creating a truly breathtaking performance.

The third movement, "Credo," is perhaps the most complex and challenging piece on the album. The choir's vocals are incredibly demanding, but they rise to the occasion, delivering a flawless performance that is both intense and emotional.

The fourth movement, "Sanctus," is a serene and peaceful piece that showcases the orchestra's ability to create a sense of calm and tranquility. The choir's vocals are gentle and soothing, creating a sense of peace and serenity that is truly remarkable.

The final movement, "Agnus Dei," is a powerful and moving piece that brings the album to a close. The choir's vocals are hauntingly beautiful, and the orchestra's melodies are both intense and emotional. Together, they create a truly unforgettable performance that is sure to leave listeners in awe.

German composer and pianist, born in 1770 (baptized 17 December 1770) in Bonn, Germany and died 26 March 1827 in Vienna, Austria. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in classical music. Beethoven led Viennese Classicism to its highest development and paved the way for Romantic music. Beethoven was the eldest son of a singer in the Kapelle of the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne and grandson of the Archbishop's Kapellmeister. He moved in 1792 to Vienna, where he had some lessons from Haydn and others, quickly establishing himself as a remarkable keyboard-player and original composer. By 1815 increasing deafness made public performance impossible and accentuated existing eccentricities of character, patiently tolerated by a series of rich patrons and his royal pupil the Archduke Rudolph. Beethoven did much to enlarge the possibilities of music and widen the horizons of later generations of composers. To his contemporaries he was sometimes a controversial figure, making heavy demands on listeners both by the length and by the complexity of his writing, as he explored new fields of music.
