About Gery Scott
English vocalist.
Born October 5, 1923 in Bombay (former British India). Australian resident since 1981, she died on December 14, 2005 (lung cancer) in Canberra, Australia.
She was actively recording in the late 1950s and early 1960s in former Czechoslovakia. Her recordings were successfully exported by PZO to former COMECON countries.
She made her first recording in Calcutta for Indian Columbia in 1942 singing Stormy Weather accompanied by Teddy Weatherford and his band.
Was married three times: to the late World War II RAF pilot Pat Lofting , to musical director and pianist Igo Fischer and finally, to oil magnate Tony Diamond.
Scott moved to Australia in 1980 and continued to perform to jazz.
Her final performances included the 2003 Sydney Cabaret Convention where she received two standing ovations for her performances of the jazz anthem Something Cool and Stephen Sondheims Send In The Clowns.
At the age of 82 and in a wheel chair, Scott gave her very last performance on October 9, 2005 at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra, accompanied by her long time pianist in Australia, Tony Magee, where her wish to do just one more gig was ably delivered with a sparkling opener of Got A Lot Of Livin To Do, followed by Body And Soul.
Gery Scott was diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2005 and passed away peacefully at Clare Holland House Hospice, Canberra Australia, on December 14th 2005.
