Born and bred in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, MC and producer, ScienZe (aka Jamal Monsanto) released his first mixtape The DOPEness, Vol. 1 in 2009. Drawing inspiration from the DIY aesthetic found in independent films and world music; while exploring themes of love and loss and the importance of having a thirst for knowledge, ScienZe has long-recognized the importance of collaboration and an open mind, when making music.
After releasing Ode 2 Dilla in 2010, a tribute to the beloved producer and his critically acclaimed Hall Pass, ScienZe has since garnered attention from popular online music blogs like 2dopeboyz, OkayPlayer, DJBooth.net, The Source, Complex, and Pigeons and Planes. ScienZe has also been featured in XXLʼs The Break most recently with his latest LP, Ella. ScienZe has hit the stage with artists such as TiRoN & Ayomari, Homeboy Sandman, Recess, Fresh Daily, recorded with acclaimed producers Ski Beatz and Blu, and has featured Def Jam Recordings artist, Asher Roth, on his 2011 release When Skies Fall.
Soon after his release of "Ella" in 2013, ScienZe was invited to a 5-country European Tour with his comrades, King I Divine, Fresh Daily and Chuk Le Garçon. The Marauders Tour, which is named after the group composed of ScienZe, Fresh Daily, and Chuk Le Garçon, lasted 28 days, and ended in Germany. A few months after arriving back to America, ScienZe was invited to headline "Target Presents: First Saturdays" at the Brooklyn Museum located in New York.
#BringBackElla, ScienZe's newest EP set to drop Oct. 21st, is a continuation to the story of his previous work, "Ella
