Have you noticed the wonderful articulation like cut glass. That’s something you most often don’t hear with modern players. Feuermann really lets the music move him without adding fake emotion. It’s refreshing like drinking a pure glass of water.

This was a state of the art recording for its time, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, probably with some of the same mics the Beatles used and were used for many film scores like the Lord of the Rings. Of course the medium they were confined to was mono direct to disk (no editing), it still sounds great. Both the recorded sound and the performance are of their period, but it is still brilliant cello playing and brilliant sound.
Just one word: marvelous! Pity he died before the stereo era.
Still my favourite rendition of this amazing work. I've owned this recording for over 30 years. Feuermann has all the tenderness and expressive freshness that this work requires. He simply lets the music flow. Thank you Jean-Claude for uploading.
The greatest cellist of the twentieth century, and I would say, the greatest performing musician. He is exceptional because he lets the music "speak" -- not his ego. Something that modern performers have long forgotten.
I'm so proud to be part of Feuermann's family. I love all the comments here - the praise of my relative makes my heart swell. He was my grandfather's first cousin.
Even with the poor quality of the recording the precision comes through. This is the work of a genius.
How pleasurable to hear a performance devoicd of distracting mannerisms. Feuermann was one of a kind, a brilliant artist and a superb musician.
'unarguably'? No. Rostropovich wants to lend you his dictionary.
Brilliant.

Even insulting the dislikes before seeing any? Even if there were a thousand dislikes, we know it's brilliant :P
This sounds so good despite the poor sound engineering of those days. There are no dislikes here, if there are in the future, that person is a meat chopper.
Peccato che l'audio non sia granchè. Si sente abbastanza bene, però,per capire che è un grande
Thank you for posting. It's just so inspiring to listen to. Unfortunately, these old folks have only a picture to speak for them, but less is more.
