On The Southside, the album by DJ Screw & The Screwed Up Click, is a classic piece of Southern hip-hop. Released in 1995, it features 17 tracks of slowed-down, chopped-up beats and rhymes from some of Houston's finest rappers.
The album opens with "Sailin' Da South," a smooth groove with a catchy chorus that sets the tone for the rest of the record. From there, the Screwed Up Click members take turns spitting verses over Screw's signature sound. "3 'N the Mornin'," "June 27th Freestyle," and "Pimp Tha Pen" are just a few of the standout tracks.
What sets this album apart from other Screw tapes is the cohesion and chemistry between the rappers. They all have their own styles and flows, but they come together to create a unified sound that's both laid-back and hard-hitting.
