Review by Stephen Forsythe

At The Lighthouse by Cannonball Adderley Quintet at The Lighthouse Featuring Nat Adderley is a timeless jazz album that showcases the quintet's exceptional talent and musicality. The album was recorded live at The Lighthouse jazz club in Hermosa Beach, California, in 1960, and captures the energy and spirit of the era.

The album features a mix of original compositions and jazz standards, including "The Work Song," "Sack O' Woe," and "Unit 7." The quintet's performance is flawless, with Cannonball Adderley's saxophone leading the way and Nat Adderley's trumpet providing the perfect complement. The rhythm section, consisting of pianist Victor Feldman, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Louis Hayes, is tight and precise, providing the perfect foundation for the soloists.

About The Cannonball Adderley Quintet At The Lighthouse Featuring Nat Adderley

The Cannonball Adderley Quintet featured Cannonball on alto sax and his brother Nat Adderley on cornet. Adderley's first quintet was not very successful; however, after leaving Miles Davis' group, he formed another, again with his brother, which enjoyed more success. The new quintet (which later became the Cannonball Adderley Sextet), and Cannonball's other combos and groups, included such noted musicians as: * pianists Bobby Timmons, Victor Feldman, Joe Zawinul, Hal Galper, Michael Wolff, George Duke, Wynton Kelly, Bill Evans * bassists Ray Brown, Sam Jones, Walter Booker, Victor Gaskin * drummers Louis Hayes, Roy McCurdy * saxophonists Charles Lloyd, Yusef Lateef. The sextet was noteworthy towards the end of the 1960s for achieving crossover success with pop audiences, but doing it without making artistic concessionsn

Azule Serape translates to "blue shawl/blanket" from Spanish I believe.

So Blue Daniel can keep warm with a Blue Blanket. :)
the good ole days before google
I found my way here after watching Dan Nimmer of the JALC Orchestra perform this live in a trio with Peter Washington and Rodney Greene at Dizzy's Club. It's definitely better with horns, but still an amazing performance.
Such a great solo commencing at 5:29 on his fantastic tune!
I never get tired of this track. Victor Feldman's voicings on HIS track are literally bonkers!
From one of the funnest live jazz albums of all time. VF lays down some beautiful harmony.
