Review by Tish Hummer

Béla Bartók's album Sz 106 Sz 113 is a masterpiece of classical music that showcases the Hungarian composer's exceptional talent and creativity. The album features a collection of Bartók's most famous works, including the Concerto for Orchestra, Dance Suite, and Divertimento.

The album begins with the Concerto for Orchestra, a piece that demonstrates Bartók's skillful orchestration and use of folk melodies. The piece is full of energy, with its dynamic rhythms and colorful harmonies. The Dance Suite, on the other hand, is a collection of six dances that showcases Bartók's fascination with Hungarian and Romanian folk music.

The Divertimento is perhaps the most celebrated piece on the album, with its playful melodies and intricate harmonies. The piece is a tribute to Mozart's Divertimento in D major, and Bartók's version features a similar lightness and elegance.

Born: 1881-03-25 (Nagyszentmiklós, Magyar Királyság). Died: September 26, 1945 (New York, New York, United States). Béla Viktor János Bartók was a Hungarian composer, pianist, ethnomusicologist and collector of Eastern European and Middle Eastern folk music (born 25/03/1881 in Nagyszentmiklós, today Sânnicolau Mare, Romania - died 25/09/1945 in New York, U.S.A). He is considered one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century; his vast production reveals a daring and restless harmonic instinct that is affected by his passionate studies on Hungarian folk songs. Typical elements of Béla Bartók style (derived from Hungarian, Transylvanian and Romanian folklore) consists in the use of irregular rhythms and a clear preference for obsessive rhythms. His compositions have sonorities, sometimes abstract, but often harsh, rough and barbaric. Married to the pianist . His 2nd son, became a recording engineer.
