En El Club St Germain, the album by Art Blakey Y Los Jazz Messengers, offers a captivating and energetic performance that truly captures the essence of jazz music. The album features a talented group of musicians who showcase their skills through their impressive solos and impeccable timing.

The album opens with "The Summit," a lively and upbeat track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The album continues with tracks such as "Round About Midnight" and "Blues March," which are both great examples of the group's ability to create a dynamic and intricate sound.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Moanin'," which features a memorable trumpet solo by Lee Morgan. The track is a perfect example of the group's ability to blend together different styles and sounds to create a cohesive and engaging performance.

About Art Blakey Y Los Jazz Messengers

Archetypal hard-bop group of the late 1950s, most date their origin to 1954 or '55 when the first recordings credited to the band appeared. Playing a driving, aggressive extension of bop with pronounced blues roots, the group continued until Blakey's death in 1990. The name Jazz Messengers had been used by earlier, but when and Blakey began working together in the early 1950's the name had been dormant several years. The Jazz Messengers formed as a collective, nominally led by Silver or Blakey. Blakey credited Silver with reviving the Messengers name for the group. The original lineup of Blakey, Silver, , & , was relatively shortlived. By late 1956 was the remaining original member. Over the years the Jazz Messengers served as a springboard for young jazz musicians, a proving ground for young jazz talent.

As I wrote somewhere else, I was there, first at the early show at the Olympia Music Hall and then quickly run to Saint Germain to sneak in the stairs of the Club for the more intimate session ... how far ago this is...fortunately it will remain forever this fabulous music. And I still have in my ears the beautiful sound of the saxophone of Benny Golson playing this "Wisper not" which is his own composition. I went some years ago to a concert of Benny Golson in Monte Carlo where he gave a concert in hommage to Clifford Brown, a great night and still a great sax.
If you saw the movie "The Terminal" of Spielberg with Tom Hanks, you coul see and hear Benny Golson at the end of the movie performing in a hotel as Tom Hanks asks him for an autograph to bring back home.
At 4:55 Lee Morgan quotes the song "Why Don't You Do Right
Art Blakey laying down the hard bop tickle and stomp!
Wow, Bobby Timmons absolutely killed it!
This is very disappointing, compared with Lou Donaldson's classic version on the "Sunny Side Up" album, which also has the composer, Bill Hardman. Lou's version is much crisper and cleaner. I am a big fan of Art Blakey, but his heavy drumming here is inappropriate.
Sounds like Benny Golson on Tenor, Lee Morgan on trumpet, Bobby Timmons on piano, Jymie Merritt on bass
Yes!!!!! been looking for this for a while.
Now say you don't like Jazz .
My favourite
The audience knows!. I guess that Hazel Scott was there and Don Byass and Lucky Thompson too! Great audience!
