About Me: My name is Megan Rheaume I am 22 years old and currently a senior at the University of Vermont. This coming May I will be graduating the University of Vermont with a bachelors degree in nutrition and food science and a minor in public communications. I have chosen to write my context blog on the prominent and constantly rising issue of fast food restaurants. American society has morphed our culture to be dependent on fast food. Some argue it may be the issue of convenience, some say it is merely based on time restrictions and others just simple love to indulge in greasy foods. I have dedicated my four years of college to the topic of nutrition and health. These are two aspects that traditionally get lost in translation among our typical societal norms. Currently nearly two thirds of American population is obese and even though it is not strictly from fast food, this industry is a huge contributor to the growing health concern. Nutrition and health may be highlighted amongst our society, however, it is highlighted in an obscured way and tends to promote more unhealthy choices than healthy choices. Conducting my participatory observation within various fast food restaurants will not help me to improve this rising health issue that concerns Americans everyday. However, I do hope this assignment brings me better understand to the inside minds of the patrons that avidly eat at fast food restaurants, because clinicians have to fully understand their patient before they can actively make changes. I then wish from this to find information that can help me change and or improve the current health issues that affect so many Americans daily.
