  • Name: Karim Mark

  • About Me: Karim Lediwa is a writer of fiction, creative non-fiction, and non-fiction. He is the author of "Life/breath"; "We Read, Therefore We Write"; "The Last Full Moon"; Cat Mountain; "Prophets of Conflict, Profits of Power"; Virago; A Diamond Talisman; "Big Dream America" or A Big Mac & William Blake"; and other works. He has a Ph.D. in biosciences, an M.A. in anthropology, and has worked for UNESCO. He was raised in the vibrant, multicultural milieu of Montreal; lived in Alaska, throughout Canada, and Japan, and has conducted anthropological fieldwork in Iran. He has a second degree black belt in Taekwondo; is trained by his faithful dog; and tries to run every day--to cleanse his brain and soul. Lediwa came of age during the dawn of personal computing--an epic moment for all of us now buried in 21st century tech. muddle. This has served to create a globally organic series of unplanned events that has changed how we approach daily life--sometimes not for the better. Among the many other unplanned moments in our lives, he can, personally, add the following........ .......having his iPhone pick-pocketed by an intelligence agent in Amman, Jordan....... .......almost falling to his death during a summer snow flurry atop an ice-covered mountain in Greenland....... .......being scammed by a grifter in Bangkok....... .......drilling tooth enamel from deer eaten by Neanderthals ~60,000 years ago (to understand climate change)....... .......and, unintentionally, skimming across the back of a surfacing humpback whale in a small boat in Frederick Sound in the Pacific Northwest (the whale? unharmed; the boat? bruised; the driver's heart? calcified!). His predilection for obsessiveness may derive from his grandfather, who created the largest collection of baseball memorabilia by a single individual in the world; a labour of love painstakingly (and passionately) curated over a fifty year period. A portion of the collection resides in a museum in Montreal. He tries to search and think within, as well as outside, of his own mind--easier said than done....and not always attempted by some; and breathes, eats, wakes, sleeps, writes, reads, speaks, lectures, teaches, does research, travels, runs, kicks, thinks, writes more, occasionally makes a good decision, did too much formal education (the whole sordid nine metres), and lives in a bizarre foreign land. He believes that naysayers and those that attempt to block and take our power must be avoided like the plague; applauds 'encouragers' and positivity; watches the universe unfold as it should, and tries to tweak the one around us, in better directions, however minor the context.
