About Super Eight Loop
"After completing a short U.S. tour in support of Whitehouse, Intrinsic Action took a break to regroup and prepare for our last hurrah. A month later, in September of 1993, I decided to lock myself away with a bunch of analog synths to create some simple, primitive power-electronic tracks that recalled the heyday of the early 80s - what got me started in the first place. ... Super Eight Loop has everything to do with New York City, primarily the filthiest fringes of the now defunct Times Square. While the absence of lyrics/vocals will not offer much in the way of clues, you can start on 43rd Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues, and go from there." -- Mark Solotroff, September 1996
Each cassette in the S8L series is a C-60, except for the original special editions of S8L20, S8L26, and S8L39. Aside from the special edition of S8L 20, each S8L cassette was housed in a standard Norelco-style snap-case with uniform covers and a small box on the spine for the number of the tape (i.e. number in the series) to be hand-written. All pre-1996 S8L cassettes featured black & white xeroxed covers, red tape labels, and the NYC address. After a hiatus of more than two years, a new printed cover was designed by (with the NYC address) in September 1996 to be used for all new and previous tapes. At the same time the three special editions were reworked into C-60s and a 50-cassette box was released of S8L1 through S8L50.
After another hiatus of nearly 10 years, the firist 50 S8L tapes were remastered and a new series of 50 tapes was begun. New printed cassette covers were designed by and the new and old series were released in parallel (one pair per month) beginning in February 2006.
