Sabbat - Sabbatrinity

Review by Jérôme LEGAY

Sabbatrinity is the third studio album by the Japanese black/thrash metal band Sabbat, released in 1991. The album features a unique blend of black metal and thrash metal, with elements of traditional heavy metal and Japanese folklore.

The album opens with the epic track "Black Fire", a fast-paced and aggressive song that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The lyrics are inspired by the Japanese legend of the Yamata no Orochi, a giant eight-headed serpent that is defeated by the god Susanoo.

Other standout tracks include "Mion's Hill", a mid-tempo song with a catchy chorus and a haunting guitar solo, and "Evil Nations", a fast and furious song with lyrics about the horrors of war and imperialism.

The production on Sabbatrinity is raw and unpolished, which adds to the album's overall charm and authenticity. The vocals are harsh and aggressive, and the guitar riffs are fast and furious.

A Japanese black/thrash metal group from Mie. Formerly called , they changed their name to Sabbat in 1984. Gezol founded and released the early Sabbat recordings on this imprint. In September '87, Sabbat played a farewell live show (they stopped playing live due to a death in Gezol and Samm's family), later on released as the "Live Curse" album. The band continued recording new studio material. In 1990 Gezol decided to return to performing live. Long time member Temis Osmond left the band in November of 2005 after 14 years. He could not continue on with full dedication to the band and also his private life.
