Review by Millah Fatimah

Flexible Flyer is a jazz album by Roswell Rudd, a celebrated American trombonist. Released in 1975, this album is a stunning showcase of Rudd's unique style and his ability to blend jazz with folk and blues influences.

The album features a range of tracks that highlight Rudd's mastery of the trombone, as well as his talent for improvisation. From the opening track, "Satan's Dance," which features a lively and energetic performance by Rudd and his band, to the haunting and beautiful "You Blew It," the album is a masterclass in jazz music.

What sets Flexible Flyer apart from other jazz albums is the way that Rudd blends different musical styles to create a sound that is both unique and compelling. His use of folk and blues influences adds a depth and richness to the music that is truly captivating.

On Roswell Rudd's birthday, RIP <3 This was the first I heard by him. My recollection, these wonderful mid70s Arista Freedom series LPs Michael Cuscuna produced hit the cut-out bins pretty swiftly. ((Hence, "Flexible Flyer"???)) My intro to beautiful Sheila Jordan.. & what a band: Hod O'Brien! Arild Anderson! Barry Altschul!! $3.49 was the going rate, pretty sure.
Thanks for putting this up.
Really a unique musician who had wit, edge, humor and a mastery of the tradition. RIP, Mr. Rudd.
My heart is broken?,when the great all trombone man passed,as a fellow university of Maine Roswell left a close musicall and philosophy impression I will ever forget, especially those improv music classes,,God bless a special soul
I remember seeing Roswell Rudd & Shelia Jordan perform in a basement jazz club in NYC Greenwich Village in the mid 70s. Oh daddy-o! Small, intimate, smoke filled with this crazy jazz being performed only a few feet away. They were so coo-coo hot that I saw them three times that week. So good that i can still recall it 40+ years later. God bless & God rest to Roswell on his passing.
wowowow
I remember hearing this on the radio in the 80s when I was 17 and being transfixed. I think I had to actually telephone the radio station to find out what it was and then the next day I went prowling around San Francisco record shops looking for a copy until I finally found one at, I believe, Aquarius Records in Noe Valley. I'll be playing this as an example in my vocal improvisation workshop next week. One of my all time fave wordless vocals from the hugely underrated Sheila Jordan.
