About Robert Hodge

Robert Hodge was originally from Memphis before moving to Chicago. After singing gospel music for many decades he became a florist on the south side of Chicago. In a 1973 article in the Chicago Defender he cited Rosetta Tharpe as his biggest influence, recalling singing on stage with her as a young boy. He also recalled learning the florist business from Mahalia Jackson. Between 1965 and 1975 he recorded at least five singles: three on Savoy, one on Klime, and one on his own label Hodgeville.
