Aristocats..Thomas O' Malley.
dude is a savage hero.
I remember first getting turned onto this when I left California for the east coast in 1969. My parents only had 2 abridged books and 2 records and this wasn't one of them. LOL!
Oh my god. I'm 12 again in '72. Been lookin' for this. Thanks for upload.
Thank you so much. I was 11 years old when I heard this song and it stuck, along with "That's What I Like About The South"
phil and alice anunlikely pair. did they have children?
I've still got this and THE THING on a 45.
Phil Harris sounded a little goofus like he was on RCA/Sony!
Goof off!
found this record for 50 cents at a thrift store in the ozarks(missouri)!!!
@casinobowling Thanks fo commenting, actually this is the "A" side as is labeled on the record as 3968-A and the Things was labeled as 3968-B on both the 78 and 45 RPM releases.
When I was a kid my dad had this 45 with "The Thing" on the flip side, and I constantly listened to it on his portable mono player with the broom-stick spindle. The melody of this song is part of the soundtrack of my childhood. "Goofus has been lucky for me".
@Beasel51 Thanks for commenting, and thanks for the information.
@EasyAce Probably, Les Paul's version of Goofus is nice too. This is almost as good as The Thing.
Who'd-a thunk Les Paul was a fan of The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show. (I'm betting Harris did this one at least once on that show, I couldn't confirm it because it's not on the surviving show episodes, alas . . . I should know, I have all of them . . . )
Cool, thanks for commenting. Les Paul had an instrumental hit with this tune.
I used to have this 78. And the flip side was The Ugly Duckling, that never appeared on compact disc or any greatest hits album.
The Thing from Campfire Sing Along!
This is the version in 1950. Didn't someone else make a hit "re-singing" it in the late 50's ?
My great-grandfather used to bounce me on his knee, singing this song. I couldn’t remember the lyrics, just remember the part about the box. It’s the only memory I have of him. ☘️
Love it, Thank You
I had a treasured album when I was a kid (on 8 track) and this was on it. Funny Bone Favorites! Good stuff!
