Noah Gundersen's 2017 album, White Noise, is a haunting and introspective journey through the mind of the singer-songwriter. The album's title is fitting, as there is a constant sense of static and dissonance that runs throughout the tracks. Gundersen's voice is raw and emotive, and his lyrics are deeply personal and introspective.
The album opens with "After All (Everything All the Time)," a slow-burning ballad that sets the tone for the rest of the record. Gundersen's voice is accompanied by sparse instrumentation, creating a sense of intimacy that draws the listener in. "The Sound" is another standout track, with its haunting melody and lyrics that explore the idea of finding meaning in a world that can often feel chaotic and meaningless.
Other highlights include "Heavy Metals," which features a driving beat and a soaring chorus, and "Cocaine, Sex & Alcohol (From a Basement in Los Angeles)," which is a stripped-down acoustic track that showcases Gundersen's songwriting skills. The album closes with "Send the Rain (To Everyone)," a beautiful and melancholic ballad that leaves the listener with a sense of catharsis.
