Review by Judith Allison

My Brightest Diamond's debut album, Bring Me The Workhorse, is a stunning and haunting collection of songs that showcases the incredible vocal range and songwriting skills of frontwoman Shara Worden. With a mix of orchestral arrangements, electronic beats, and rock instrumentation, the album defies easy categorization and creates a unique and captivating sonic landscape.

From the opening track "Something of an End," with its swirling strings and Worden's soaring vocals, to the haunting ballad "Workhorse," the album is a powerful and emotional journey that explores themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. The standout track "Golden Star" features a driving beat and a catchy chorus that will leave listeners humming for days, while "Dragonfly" is a delicate and ethereal ballad that showcases Worden's ability to create a mood with just her voice and a few sparse guitar chords.

Summary by Judith Allison

Comments

What a weirdly somber-sounding song for something that could have made it onto the LittleBigPlanet soundtrack.
Granddaughter of a travelling musical evangelist, and daughter to accordion and organ playing parents, classically trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Shara Nova, began this project combining her chamber music with a ante-grade rock whilst residing in New York and collaborating with fellow displanted Michigan native, Sufjan Stevens. Heavily influenced by Kate Bush, Nova's debut album also bears comparison to both PJ Harvey and Beth Gibbons. Standout tracks include th operatic album opener, 'Something of an End' and the orchestral beauty of 'Golden Star'. Another highlight is the atmospheric narrative of the artist's childhood trauma of discovering a dead bird and placing it within a glass jar in hope of restoring it to life in 'The Robin's Jar'. Nova's angelic vocals are also to the fore on 'Gone Away', Disappear', 'Dragonfly', and 'We Were Sparkling'. Finally, the album closes with the dramatic and melancholy-dripped 'Workhorse'.
❤️
this could've been in LBP? makes sense why they didn't settle on it. doesn't really fit the vibe (besides maybe The Wedding theme)
Omfg how magical
this couldve been in lbp
Wow. This certainly is, uh... different.
Lovely!!!❤️
essa música não tem como enjoar
I once saw a dragonfly
Caught in a spider's web
As I looked at her once more
I thought that she was dead

So I left her alone and I went on my way
And I was dreaming of Paris and Pierre Boulez
But she called to me with a beat of her wing
She called to me and said, "Free me!"

She said, "Come and fly away
With me tonight
Come and fly away
With me
Come and fly away
With me tonight"
She said, "Ah ah ah..."

I've been up there before
Riding the wind and
Laughing and open
But now I am afraid of flying
I am…
I use to listen to this not stop 4 years ago when I used to be depressed. I am slowly going back to that state. listening to this song again brings so many emotions.
The bad video quality just gives it a beautiful antique glare
Does anyone know what genre this is?
Just curious, i've gotten "indie" but idrk if that's an actual answer
One of the most beautiful songs in existence.
im now just stumbling upon this. definitely shows a different era in this video.
Has anyone noticed she looks at butterflies, not dragonflies? LOL
It's 2019. Why isn't this on Spotify?
I love this song and video and it is a good thing I can still watch it!
Female Jeff Buckley
I adore this song, this woman. And always will.
2018 someone?
lsa
43 people don't like this? Weird. At least it has more views than I thought. Shara is soooo talented.
I love it in a weird way .. Nostalgic.. we grew apart and old type of feeling but not in a sad way
Strange enough the athmosphere in this music reminds me of Jeff Buckley, both instrumental and vocal....
One of my favorite songs ever. Shara is so awesome.
Butterflies look strangely like dragonflies.....stoned again?
