At The Old Waldorf 76 77 by Mike Bloomfield is a live album that showcases the legendary blues guitarist's mastery of his craft. Recorded over two nights in 1976 and 1977 at San Francisco's Old Waldorf club, the album features Bloomfield's scorching guitar work and soulful vocals on a mix of blues standards and original compositions.

The album kicks off with a blistering version of "Mystery Train," with Bloomfield's incendiary guitar playing leading the charge. From there, he and his band launch into a series of blues classics, including "Born in Chicago," "Sweet Little Angel," and "It Hurts Me Too." Bloomfield's guitar work is nothing short of electrifying, with his solos ranging from fiery bursts of energy to delicate, nuanced passages.

b. July 28, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, USA d. San Francisco, California, February 15, 1981, by drug overdose. Respected for his fluid guitar playing, Bloomfield knew and played with many of Chicago's blues legends even before he achieved his own fame, and was one of the primary influences on the mid-to-late 1960s revival of classic Chicago and other styles of blues music. In 2003 he was ranked at number 22 on Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time". Unlike contemporaries such as Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck, Bloomfield rarely experimented with feedback and distortion, preferring a loud but clean, almost chiming sound with a healthy amount of reverb. Gibson has since released a Michael Bloomfield Les Paulreplicating his 1959 Standardin recognition of his effect on the blues genre, on helping to influence the revived production of the guitar, and on many other guitarists.
