Midnight Oil - Head Injuries

Review by Ananta Christyana

Midnight Oil's album Head Injuries, released in 1979, is a powerful and politically charged collection of songs that showcases the band's unique blend of punk, rock, and social commentary. The album opens with the driving and urgent "Cold Cold Change," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. The band's signature sound, driven by Peter Garrett's passionate vocals and the tight rhythm section of drummer Rob Hirst and bassist Bones Hillman, is on full display throughout the album.

The standout tracks on Head Injuries include "Section 5 (Bus to Bondi)," a rollicking punk anthem that captures the energy and chaos of urban life, and "Stand In Line," a scathing indictment of the conformity and apathy that the band saw in society. "Power and the Passion" is another standout, with its driving beat and catchy chorus making it one of the band's most enduring hits.

Summary by Ananta Christyana

The album also features some slower, more introspective tracks, like "Someone Else to Blame" and "No Reaction," which showcase the band's ability to convey emotion and vulnerability through their music. Head Injuries is a powerful and thought-provoking album that still resonates today. It's a must-listen for fans of Midnight Oil and anyone interested in socially conscious rock music.

Comments

My favourite Oils album. They may have gone on to produce more complex albums but none as fast, furious and passionate as this one.
Oils for Life
Rush meets Beastie Boys
Gotta love the early Oils. So much better than their later stuff. Raw, energetic and less mainstream.
Love the military paradittle at the end. #cadence
drums
good stalking music.lol.
Day 6140. 2 x 2 x 5 x 307. All my urine til 3.00pm then dried figs and green grapes and a few bites of apple and a few peashoota then more urine then more grapes and apple and peashoota at 7.00pm. No change.
jazz intro .wtf ? heavy punk riff...another classic
Got to Sydney in 1980. This, and the Midnight Oil albums were being advertised on the telly. Being a young boy from Perth, I had never seen this level of promotion for a local band before, but bloody hell - The country picked a winner!
They yoused to rock wife da best of em sic.
Is this Song from 1980? I thought it was from 1989, 1990....
'And sometimes when a thousand voicesr tell you that you're wrong ...

A saint in any formr becomes a sinner all along'
Bald people should get more votes.
Funk out of Sydney 1979?

Fantastic song.
Strutting, swinging and swaying down Bondi Rd, along Campbell Parade up to North Bondi headland, ? in one ✋,billy in the other, hot chicks in tow, oils blasting in symphony with the sound of the ? s breaking. Rewind and hit the Play button, again and again untill the 365 comes back around.
