Review by joko subiyanto

How The World Came To An End is the fifth studio album by the Norwegian avant-garde black metal band Manes. The album was released in 2007 and received critical acclaim for its unique sound and experimental approach to black metal.

The album features a blend of electronic and acoustic instruments, as well as spoken word samples and ambient soundscapes. The result is a haunting and atmospheric sound that is both beautiful and unsettling.

The album is split into two parts, with the first half featuring more traditional black metal songs, while the second half is more experimental and atmospheric. Standout tracks include "Deeprooted", "Nobody Wants the Truth", and "Last Lights".

Summary by joko subiyanto

How The World Came To An End is a fascinating and captivating album that showcases Manes' unique approach to black metal. It is a must-listen for fans of experimental metal and anyone looking for something different and challenging.

Comments

By the time of their third album How the World Came to an End, it was impossible to say if Manes were trying to be the Norwegian Katatonia or the Norwegian Nine Inch Nails: this album offered Electronic-tinged Post-Grunge music that Trent Reznor would have found interesting to his tastes. "Come to Pass" features rapping vocals and French language, "I Watch You Fall" is entirely composed of echoed vocals, distorted guitar ghost notes and tridimensional keyboard ambience, while "Transmigrant" delves with dissonant synth sounds and enigmatic backings. The rest of the album continues the same Post-Grunge platter and Hip-Hop nods and accents the band started with Vilosophe, with very mixed results. The songs are underwritten, the rhythms are formulaic, and all the hooks have been substituted with pristine clarity and constant low keyboard counterpoint effects. This album represents the "Electronic Rock" tag in its worst incarnation, and can be easily forgotten even by genre enthusiasts.Highlights: "Come to Pass".
