Lärmschutz - Teflon

Review by CillaClare

Lärmschutz's latest album, Teflon, is a riveting collection of experimental jazz and noise rock that pushes the boundaries of conventional music. From the opening track, "Bunker," the album immerses the listener in a world of dissonant guitar riffs, frenzied drumming, and haunting saxophone melodies. The band's improvisational skills and ability to seamlessly blend different genres are on full display in tracks like "Babylon" and "Sisyphus," where they effortlessly transition from chaotic noise to serene jazz passages. The album's production is top-notch, with each instrument given its own space to shine. Teflon is a must-listen for fans of avant-garde music and anyone looking to expand their musical horizons.

Notes

  • Teflon is like an itch: scratch it and things will only get worse. The chemical formula of teflon is even less forgiving than our own bodyscratching. The latter only causes some redness and, possibly, a small infection. The first will poison and ensures death in large doses.
  • There is, however, an overlooked beauty to a well worn frying pan. Used, cleaned and reused so many times the bottom is reduced to random, fidgety looking lines where once a clean surface existed. It is action painting in it's slowest form. And the artist doesn't even know he's making it.
  • The music on this cassette is an ode to this material. Threatened in it's household use because of this poisonous quality. The wabi sabi-ness off it only found in old cabinets and our collective memory.
  • This cassette tries to catch the artistic qualities of teflon kitchenware after heavy use. The lines, circles, scratches and dings are highly personal for the chef it served. It can be considered a graphic score for the raw intensity, linear randomness and yes, the dangerous stuff it hides. Studying your own worn teflon whilst listening will deepen your understanding of this music.
