Review by Derek Wood

The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet's self-titled album, LAGQ, is a breathtaking display of virtuosity, musicianship, and creativity. The quartet, comprising John Dearman, William Kanengiser, Scott Tennant, and Matthew Greif, showcase their individual and collective talents on this album, which features a mix of classical, folk, and contemporary music.

The album opens with "Fandango," a fiery and intricate piece that highlights the quartet's technical prowess and rhythmic energy. From there, the album takes the listener on a journey through a diverse range of musical styles and moods, from the hauntingly beautiful "El Arpa del Guerrero" to the playful and whimsical "Little Wing."

One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote," a multi-movement suite that tells the story of Cervantes' famous character through a series of musical vignettes. The quartet's ability to convey the humor, pathos, and drama of the story through their playing is truly impressive.
