Japanese: A beautiful language for a beautiful country
He was also the first Japanese artist to have a number one single on the Australian singles chart. Sakamoto died on 12 August 1985 in the crash of Japan Air Lines Flight 123, along with 519 others on board the flight. -- so sad to pass at such a young age
Getting major "Girl of My Best Friend" vibes from this.
I remember listening to this in Port Moresby PNG way back then.
My dad bought me a jewelry box when he was stationed in Guam that played this song. I played it over and over. Makes me miss my Dad so much. ?
It's such a shame the way he passed away - Truly love this song either in English or Japanese
It would not be until 2020 when BTS hit number one with Dynamite, that a foreign artist from Asia would hit the top of the charts.
Brilliant, timeless track.
The tragic mr.sakamoto.
The song still gives me goosebumps. 15yo in 63 I'd already lived in the Philippines, spent time in Hong Kong, Japan and had a deep love for all things Asian. And this as a California beach girl. Now I'm a 74yo all things Asian lover, especially K-pop/drama & Dimash.
My grandfather told me they used that whistle back in 64' to lettem know when the opps were coming in Englewood, Chitown
