About Johnnie Taylor
Gospel/r&b/soul singer, born 5 May 1937 in Crawfordsville, Arkansas, died 31 May 2000 in Dallas, Texas.
He started his career in the mid-1950s as a member of gospel group The Highway QC's but left that group in 1957 to replace as lead vocalist for The Soul Stirrers.
Taylor has been active as a solo artist since the early 1960s, first at Sam Cooke's , later at the label where he had a string of hits. His best known song from that period is probably "Who's Making Love" (1968).
Following the bankruptcy of Stax in 1976 he signed at where he recorded his biggest hit "Disco Lady" (1976), the first single to be rewarded with a platinum record in the US (for selling 2 million copies).
After a brief period at in the early 1980s he signed at in 1984 where he would record until his death.
Please see , easily confused as contemporary & near namesake who hit with "Part Time Love" in 1963.

Born in Mobile, Ala this is the music I grew up on listening to Randy and J.R in Nashville, TN.
Definitely his best album.
In 1966 ,I was at a club in Nashville,tn remember him singing this song,I love this song,brings back so many memories and good times.

So many great soul tunes in that year of 1966. I listened to them on the baddest little radio station on the planet. Ever. WVON 1450. This was one of my favorites from that summer.

I miss the good old good ones! Like flying into CHI to see my man JT at the Aerie Crown, Chicago Amphi Theater! Cocktail hour at Flukies, Perv's Place,The Dating Game, The High Chapperelle-Burning Spear, The Tiger Lounge, Mr. Ricky's, The Copper Box, Lem's BBQ, breakfast at Gladys's and all the Jew Town Pastrami, Giros, Chicago Hot Dogs. All the beautiful sisters from Southside, Westside, Northside,&Harvey. Give me a weekend in CHI any day over Vegas! At least Back then, WVON with MOO & OINK!
