Review by Fabio Destri

The album "Die 6 Motetten BWV 225 230" by Johann Sebastian Bach, Bachchor Stockholm, Concentus Musicus Wien, Nikolaus Harnoncourt is a must-have for any classical music enthusiast. The album features six of Bach's most beautiful motets, performed with precision and passion by the Bachchor Stockholm and the Concentus Musicus Wien, under the direction of the legendary conductor, Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

The album opens with "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied," a joyful and uplifting piece that showcases the choir's impeccable harmonies and Harnoncourt's masterful control of the orchestra. The other motets on the album are equally impressive, with each one highlighting a different aspect of Bach's genius, from the intricate counterpoint of "Jesu, meine Freude" to the haunting beauty of "Komm, Jesu, komm."

Throughout the album, the Bachchor Stockholm and the Concentus Musicus Wien prove themselves to be among the finest ensembles in the world, delivering flawless performances that are both technically perfect and emotionally moving. Harnoncourt's leadership is also a key factor in the album's success, as he brings out the best in both the choir and the orchestra, creating a sound that is both powerful and delicate.

About Johann Sebastian Bach, Bachchor Stockholm, Concentus Musicus Wien, Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
