Review by Dr John Murugaselvam

Joe & Eddie's album Walkin Down The Line is a delightful collection of folk and blues tracks that showcase the duo's musical prowess and chemistry. The album features a mix of original compositions and covers of classic songs, all of which are performed with a raw and authentic energy that captures the essence of the folk and blues genres.

The opening track, "Walkin Down The Line," sets the tone for the album with its upbeat tempo and catchy melody. Joe & Eddie's harmonies are tight and expressive, and their guitar playing is masterful and dynamic. Other standout tracks include "Darlin' Corey," a haunting ballad that showcases the duo's ability to convey emotion through their voices and instruments, and "Midnight Special," a rollicking blues number that will get listeners tapping their feet and clapping their hands.

Notes

  • Was it on the Danny Kaye TV series that you first saw them; or was it the "Tonight" show, or the Jackie Gleason Show, or "Shindig" - or any one of several other important TV shows?
  • Through hundreds of TV appearances, coast-to-coast concert and nightclub engagements and six previous successful albums, Joe & Eddie have become firmly established in the firmament of musical stardom. And Like Ol' Man River - "They just keep rollin' along"! In every way, they have what it takes - great voices, a completely unique and exciting style and irresistible personalities, both vocally and visually.
  • For this outing, Joe & Eddie reach out and stamp their distinctive imprint on contemporary favorites, including several by Bob Dylan; introduce several new songs written expressly for them by Jackie De Shannon; turn to Broadway for a great song from "The Roar of the Greasepaint" and wrap up the entire proceedings with their original love - Gospel.
  • "Don't write anything about us this time - just run some pictures on the back!" said Eddie Brown in his modest, winsome way. He's probably right! "One listen is worth a thousand words!"

I was a child when I first heard this song performed on a music tv show by this duo and it stayed with me.. Have heard other good versions but this is my favorite. The harmony gets me in a great way
One of the best duos ever
I've got a tear in my eye as I hear these two colossal entertainers. It brings back the sixties when I heard them so many times in LA. What a tragedy to have lost Joe. They were two of the finest folk singers I ever heard. Their voices rang freedom.
possibly the most beloved music of all my many favorites, if they dont deeply impact you, your not alive! i cannot over emphasize how truly profound and forgotten they are in human history. every other folk artist was garbage by comparison
their omission from history is one of humanity's great failures
Thanks, Chris Freed, for those very just comments - I just can't believe that no-one, absolutely no-one, speaks a word about Joe and Eddie any more . Those guys could make you levitate! And Joe Peskie, thanks for the info about Hal Blaine. As a former drummer, I love to hear his stuff; probably the most recorded rock drummer of all time (apart from Bernard Purdie?)
Thank you so much for posting this! I love Joe & Eddie, my mother had several of their albums and (in those long-ago days before iPods) kids pretty much had to listen to their parents' music, so I grew up with these guys and they were magnificent. This whole album is great, and none of it is on their "Best of Joe and Eddie" CD, which is a shame. Maybe because it was electric, it's not considered their best music...? I don't know, but it's great stuff and I'd love to have it again.
Hi there, Fans might be interested in The #BobDylan Project Email to The.Dylan.Project@bigpond.com for details.
I am the nephew of Joe Gilbert, he actually named me and died a few months before I was born.  But my mom (his sister) say I have some of his characteristics.
THESE MEN WERE SOOOOO UNDER RATED...
On this day in 1965 {August 21st} the duo Joe and Eddie performed "Walking Down the Line" on the LA-based TV program 'Shivaree'...
Sadly, just under a year later on August 6th, 1966 Joe Gilbert was killed in a auto accident...
May he R.I.P.
THATS HAL BLAINE ON DRUMS...BLAINE STRIKES AGAIN!!!
I agree! These guys were amazing. When in High School, I had the pleasure of seeing them live at the Cosmos Folk Club in Seal Beach, California. Such excitement! Back in the days of Hoyt Axton and Tim Morgan, too. Really brings back memories!
Ashamed to say I have never heard of Joe and Eddie. Obviously, my music education is sorly lacking......This was upbeat and spirited. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
