I read this novel twice back to back in 1980. What a novel!!! What a struggle and perseverance to live despite odds always. Superb novel.

An excellent movie and so is the score. That McQueen didnt win the oscar for this is a Sin. Moreover that dreadful remake. Oh Well, people dont always get things right.

I see bits and pieces of my life in Papillon, the only movie I watched more than 20 times and every time I shed a tear...a movie that stays with me life time...

I saw Papillon in the movie theater in the 70s. Huge screen. Technicolor. I was so overwhelmed by all the emotions this great movie had produced in me that at the end I couldn't even get up from my seat. What a great ending by the great Steve McQueen, "Hey you bastards! I'm still here!" The music & everything set my heart to the right direction. & I was just 10 years old.
The part that Papillon was rescued by an Indian tribe in the Caribbean island to me is still the true meaning of paradise(I started at the Indian girl's nipples like they're dazzleing treasures in a box). And the part before this paradise was when he was running away from those Indians in the jungle; that to my young mind was the meaning of Hell & a hellish nightmare.
Freedom isn't everything, but it's the basis of everything.

Riveting movie, came to mind after learning that the assassin of PM ABE was taking revenge for
his mother's lost fortune. In the movie, one of the correctional officer's mother was swindled by a bond counterfeiter played by Hoffman. In the recent event, Abe was a church member that duped the
assassin's mother of the family fortune. The movie had many scenes that gave me goosebumps.

If you could watch only one movie in your lifetime you should watch this

What a movie respect ????

Grande opera, finale rischioso..contare il numero di onde ,per trovare quella giusta che non s' infrange sullo scoglio: era l' unica che avrebbe dato la spinta verso il mare,insieme alla zattera di noci di cocco. L' isola del penitenziario in realtà era bella,qualcuno si era fatto l' orticello..?ma non poteva andare oltre. Ecco il protagonista ,tradito da tutti,venduto persino da una suora superiora a cui lui aveva dato gioielli in pegno per pagarsi la prima fuga,( metaforicamente) perde anche la fede,la fiducia e la possibilità di pregare* eppure resiste,.. trova un amico con cui conversare,ormai "arreso" istituzionalizzato ,alla vita di prigione all' aperto,è già invecchiato*. In fondo non era lontana la terra da raggiungere. O fai di tutto per vivere o fai di tutto per " spegnerti in questo caso,e lui ha rischiato,vivendo poi della sua incredibile biografia ,un libro, gli ultimi anni della sua vita,maturo ma non vecchio. Capolavoro più sofferto ed ancora più drammatico del successivo Le ali della liberta ma ha ispirato molte persone e la cinematografia,aprendo nuove idee,perchè...era una storia vera.*** ?Aveva scelto di " vivere".? Film da RIVALUTARE* In quegli anni le storie erano molto dure,strong ,spietate ,tutto portato all' eccesso dove ,solo il protagonista " svantaggiato " dalla possibilità di comunicare in rete,doveva trovare strategie nelle cose semplici e la forza dentro di sè.
