Review by Tom Kopilas

Peças Orquestrais de Óperas, the album by Herbert Von Karajan and the Philharmonia Orchestra, is a stunning showcase of the conductor's talent for bringing the drama and emotion of operatic music to life. The album features pieces from some of the most beloved operas of all time, including Verdi's Aida, Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, and Puccini's La Bohème.

From the opening notes of the album, listeners are transported to a world of grandeur and passion. The Philharmonia Orchestra's lush, sweeping strings and bold brass sections perfectly capture the sweeping melodies and dramatic crescendos of each piece. Meanwhile, Von Karajan's masterful conducting brings a sense of urgency and intensity to the music, making each note feel like it matters.

One of the standout tracks on the album is the overture to Verdi's Aida, which begins with a hauntingly beautiful melody played by the strings before building to a thunderous climax. The Philharmonia Orchestra's performance of this piece is nothing short of breathtaking, with each section of the orchestra working together seamlessly to create a truly epic sound.

Another highlight of the album is the suite from Puccini's La Bohème, which features some of the most beloved melodies in all of opera. The Philharmonia Orchestra's rendition of these pieces is both tender and passionate, with Von Karajan bringing out the full emotional depth of the music.
