Have A Nice Life - Sea Of Worry

Review by Tina Prell

The album Sea Of Worry by Have A Nice Life is a hauntingly beautiful work of art that transports listeners to a world of melancholic introspection. From the opening track "Sea Of Worry" to the closing notes of "Lords Of Tresserhorn," the album takes the listener on a journey through dark soundscapes and intricate melodies.

The duo, Dan Barrett and Tim Macuga, have created a unique sound that blends elements of post-punk, shoegaze, and ambient music. The production is top-notch, with each instrument and sound carefully layered to create a dense and textured sonic landscape.

The lyrics on the album are introspective and poetic, exploring themes of anxiety, depression, and existential dread. The vocals are delivered with a sense of urgency and emotion that adds to the overall atmosphere of the album.

One standout track on the album is "Dracula Bells," which features a driving drumbeat and haunting guitar riffs. The chorus is catchy and memorable, with the lyrics "I'm afraid to die" echoing in the listener's head long after the song has ended.

Comments

Band in convo: "Let's put the mic way down there and we'll stand way over here and on the count of 3 let's start playing. Won't that be cool?" [Grins]... Nope. This is not Shoegaze, period. This is Post-punk, period. The music hints at various bands that happened upon the "scene" most likely before the kids in the band were born. The gloom appeal is understood. Now that's not to say 'Sea of Worry' is not without some merit. What is funny is the variety of Tags assigned to this record on the Bandcamp page. Metal, Blackgaze, Doomgaze, Shoegaze, and my favorite tag - Whatever. The missing Tag (read link) is Post-punk. Let me hint that you can stream/sample some of the band's output via Bandcamp. The digital download pricing is generous. The silly dark ambient pedal to affect closing found on track 5 cements my opinion, which is HANL is, at best, derivative. Track 6 is just annoying. Finally, the closing track 'Destinos' which begins with a field recording of an anonymous college instructor introducing the concept of Heaven
Seriously, WTF was wrong with Fantano on this one?
It's like he listened to the first 2 minutes of the first 2 tracks and stopped there.
I love this album
NOTHING WILL EVER GO WRONG
NOTHING WILL EVER GO WRONG
Woke up out of breath and in confusion. Had a dream I got back together with my ex. It was the most vivid dream and happiest moment in my life. Glad we all have Have A Nice Life to listen to in times like these.
This song sounds like a season finale car crash. When a lovable character gets T-boned at an intersection.
The lyrics to this one are really haunting when you actually look at them. Not particularly obviously dark or anything, but just this massive sigh at the realisation that you still cling to what you thought that being an adult meant when you were a child despite the fact that you now know that nothing is in your control and that you will lose. You are no longer the Lord of Tresserhorn; you are merely putting the card on the table.
It's crazy I was listening to death pornogrind music and somehow I ended up here.good ol YouTube
The issue is not how average, middle-of-the-road, post punk-by-numbers and predictable these songs are. The real issue is, having watched Barrett's videos as an estate agent/ marketing advisor, how the hell could these two guys record such an intense, dark, morbid, desperate and courageous record, as Deathconsciousness is.
My favourite song its fucking amazing i love you guys
This band are Good as Fuck
guys, target me with the draw two.
