Governess - Zero

Review by Marco Cosimi

Governess' latest album, Zero, is a bold and captivating exploration of post-punk and experimental rock. The band's sound is dominated by driving basslines, thunderous drums, and intricate guitar work, all anchored by the commanding vocals of frontwoman Amanda Dellevigne.

The album's opening track, "Rituals," sets the tone with its dissonant guitar riffs and haunting vocal melodies. From there, the band launches into the propulsive "Lies," which features a driving rhythm section and a chorus that will stick in your head for days.

Throughout the album, Governess showcases an impressive range of influences, from the angular post-punk of "No Regrets" to the dreamy shoegaze of "Fade Away." The band's experimental leanings are also on full display, with tracks like "The Void" and "Obsidian" featuring swirling synths and otherworldly soundscapes.

Despite the varied sonic palette, Zero is a cohesive and focused album that never loses sight of its mission. Governess' lyrics are often introspective and poetic, touching on themes of isolation, self-discovery, and the search for meaning in a chaotic world.
