Review by Cyd Weeks

Spookie Movies, the album by Gary Paxton, is a hauntingly beautiful collection of songs that will transport listeners to a world of eerie wonder. From the opening track, "The Monster Mash," to the closing number, "Haunted House," Paxton's unique blend of rock and roll, country, and spooky sound effects creates a spine-tingling atmosphere that is both playful and chilling.

The album's standout tracks include "The Witch Queen of New Orleans," a bluesy number that tells the story of a voodoo priestess, and "Dracula's Theme," a haunting instrumental that evokes images of a dark castle and a bloodthirsty vampire. Other highlights include "The Mummy," a catchy rock and roll tune about the undead, and "The Ghost of Mary Meade," a mournful ballad about a tragic love affair.

Throughout the album, Paxton's vocals are smooth and effortless, conveying a sense of fun and mischief that is infectious. The backing musicians are equally impressive, providing a solid foundation for Paxton's songs while adding their own unique touches to each track.
