Gamalon - Gamalon

Review by Vladislav Gubarev

Gamalon's self-titled album, released in 1987, is a fusion masterpiece that showcases the band's incredible musicianship and creative vision. The album features complex compositions that blend elements of jazz, rock, funk, and world music, creating a unique sound that is both intricate and accessible.

From the opening track, "KGB", it's clear that Gamalon means business. The band's tight rhythm section lays down a funky groove, while the horns and keyboards interweave in a complex and captivating melody. The rest of the album follows suit, with each track offering something new and exciting.

One standout is "Arrakis", a hauntingly beautiful piece that combines Middle Eastern scales with a jazz sensibility. The track builds slowly, with each instrument adding its own layer of texture and emotion, until it reaches a powerful climax that leaves the listener breathless.

Another highlight is "Lullaby for Lenny", a tribute to the late jazz pianist Lenny Tristano. The track is a showcase for keyboardist Bruce Brucato, who delivers a stunning solo that captures the spirit of Tristano's pioneering work.

Just found out about TR. Godspeed.
Saw these guys about a half dozen times in small clubs in Boston back in the eighties. Everybody I turned them onto was wowed by them. They kicked ass. Saw em 2 or 3 times at Nightstage, what a perfect venue.Ahh the good ole days of the music scene back in The Hub in the 70.s 80's. The Channel,9 Landsdowne, Axxis, Bunrattys (ratbunnys) Mr. C's Rock Palace. Seeing the Chili Peppers in a 100 person shithole in Somerville in purple & gold body paint not long after the C's lost to the fakers. Nothin like The Hub miusic scene back in the day.
What happened to this band ??
Used to go down to CPG's to watch them--Bruce Bucato always really nailed this one.
rip ted
I'd read somewhere that this was a tribute to Robert Plant.
*Edit: all I had to do was buust out the CD to see it's dedicated to him.
Such a gem!!
Amazing
greatness squared!!!!!!!!!!
the finest , magic touch !!!
i have this cassette
so much great music seems to go over everyone's heads, kinda sad really, I'm so glad I explore all sorts of music, I'm an old fart, where's me frikken drums! In the '70's I was lucky enough to see some great concerts in Toronto (when normal-ish people could afford reasonably priced tickets), one was John McLaughlin (sic) on his Birds of Fire tour, these guys remind me of that sort of energy, its refreshing :)
Effing Awesome !
I bought this album at a local record shop simply because it looked interesting. One of the best records I own and glad I was intrigued by the album art enough to buy it .
