Dunkelziffer - Retrospection Part 1

Review by Montes Marin

Retrospection by Dunkelziffer is an album that takes listeners on a journey through the evolution of the German band's sound. The album features a mix of funk, jazz, and world music elements that are expertly blended together to create a unique and cohesive sound.

The opening track, "Luminous Stomp," sets the tone for the album with its upbeat tempo and funky bassline. As the album progresses, listeners are treated to a variety of instrumental tracks that showcase the band's musical prowess. Tracks like "La Vie en Rose" and "Café Central" have a jazzy feel, while "Mango Walk" and "The Sun is Shining" incorporate world music elements.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Mirror," a hauntingly beautiful instrumental that features a repetitive piano melody and atmospheric sounds. The track is a perfect example of the band's ability to create a mood and transport listeners to another world.

The debut album is absolutely extraordinary and it has a Disco Not Disco aesthetic of the highest order - This track and This Is How You Came alone are worth the price of admission. Just discovered Emotional Reissue reissued many of the tracks on vinyl and digital but sadly not CD!
