Review by Pierre Bataille

Strings And Things A Little Of What You Fancy is an impressive album by the Scottish folk duo, Corries. The album features a beautiful blend of traditional Scottish folk music and contemporary influences, making it a delightful listen for fans of both genres.

The album opens with the upbeat and catchy "The Roses of Prince Charlie", which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The duo's harmonies are impeccable, and their use of stringed instruments such as the guitar and mandolin adds a unique touch to the arrangements.

The album also features some standout tracks, such as "The Bonnie Lass o' Fyvie" and "The Haughs o' Cromdale", which showcase the duo's ability to breathe new life into traditional Scottish folk songs. The title track, "A Little of What You Fancy", is a fun and playful tune that will have listeners tapping their toes.

About The Corries

Scottish folk music duo of Roy Williamson and Ronnie Browne. Started off in 1962 as the made up of Roy Williamson, Bill Smith, and Ron Cruikshank who parted company soon after and so Ronnie Browne joined. They also teamed up for a while with Irish singer . By 1965 Bill and Paddie had moved on and Roy and Ronnie carried on as a duo called . Roy wrote 'Flower Of Scotland' in the mid sixties. Scots took the song to heart. Much publicised was the request from the Scottish Rugby Union to use the song as an unofficial anthem for the international squad, but long before that it was a true underground national anthem of the people rather than the more mainstream recognised 'Scotland The Brave'. Sadly Roy (a fervent rugby fan himself) died in 1990 of cancer from a brain tumor although he lived long enough to see his Scotland side win the 1990 Grand Slam that year.
