Cavity - Laid Insignificant

Review by Margaret Whitehead

Cavity's album Laid Insignificant is a crushing display of raw, unadulterated sludge metal. From start to finish, the band pummels the listener with thunderous riffs, bone-rattling basslines, and ferocious drumming.

The album's production is suitably murky and dense, with a thick wall of sound that engulfs the listener. The vocals are often buried deep in the mix, adding to the album's ominous, foreboding atmosphere.

Despite the relentless brutality of the music, there is a sense of purpose and intentionality to the band's approach. Each track feels carefully crafted and thoughtfully executed, with a keen sense of dynamics and pacing.

Standout tracks include the epic opener "Crawling," which sets the tone for the rest of the album with its slow, deliberate build-up and explosive release. "Supercollider" is another highlight, with its churning, hypnotic riff and crushing breakdown.

Comments

One of their stop-gap EPs.
my favourite cavity song. i can't help but feel they never got the recognition they deserved as pioneers of what is labelled as sludge.
This song hits me so hard, might be my favorite ever. Just listening to his voice, you can hear the raw anger, sheer pain and desperate longing so vividly. I'm right there with it.
God, Cavity speaks to me. Its music of absolute pain and desperation. So in love with Miami.
