The Boots Mussulli Quartet's self-titled album is a jazz lover's dream. The album features ten tracks of expertly crafted jazz compositions that showcase the quartet's exceptional musicianship. From the opening track, "I'll Remember April," to the closing track, "Stella By Starlight," every song is a masterpiece.
Boots Mussulli's alto saxophone playing is the star of the show, with his solos being both technically impressive and emotionally moving. The rest of the quartet, consisting of Dave McKenna on piano, John Drew on bass, and Jimmy Zitano on drums, provides the perfect support for Mussulli's saxophone. The quartet plays with a synergy that can only come from years of playing together.
The album's standout track is the Mussulli-penned "Bootsie," which features a catchy melody and a driving rhythm section. The quartet's chemistry is on full display here, with each member taking turns showcasing their improvisational skills.
