Biblical - The City That Always Sleeps

Review by jade cadelina

Biblical's latest album, The City That Always Sleeps, is a haunting and immersive experience that captures the essence of urban decay and existential anxiety. The band's blend of heavy riffs, atmospheric soundscapes, and poetic lyrics creates a mood that is both oppressive and cathartic.

From the opening track, "Mature Themes," with its ominous bass line and distorted guitar, to the closing ballad, "The Last Thing I Remember," which features a haunting piano melody and ethereal vocals, the album takes the listener on a journey through the dark alleys and empty streets of a nameless city.

The standout tracks include "Gallows Humor," which features a driving rhythm and a memorable chorus, and "The City That Always Sleeps," which showcases the band's ability to create a sense of foreboding with minimal instrumentation and haunting vocals.

Summary by jade cadelina

The City That Always Sleeps is a bold and ambitious album that showcases Biblical's unique sound and vision. It is not an easy listen, but for those who appreciate heavy music that is both challenging and rewarding, it is an album that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Comments

This album has steadily grown on me. It has some outstanding moments, such as "Mature Themes," "Regicide," and "House of Knives." "Gallows Humor" is another strong song, but I find a weakness in the instrumentals (three of them). For the length of the songs, between 4 and 5 minutes, they do grow a bit repetitive. Biblical swings from loud and distorted to slow and mellow from song to song, but with rare tonal shifts within songs ("Regicide" switches halfway through). Interesting, and repeat listens may open up more for me to enjoy.
