The Bates College Community Orchestra, together with the Mt Ararat and Lewiston High School Chorus, recently released an album featuring the Schubert Mass in G, conducted by William Matthews. The album is a beautiful rendition of the classic mass, showcasing the talents of the orchestra and choir.
The album begins with the Kyrie, a solemn and reflective piece that sets the tone for the rest of the mass. The orchestra's strings and woodwinds provide a gentle and calming backdrop to the choir's angelic harmonies. The Gloria follows, with a more upbeat and joyful tempo. The choir's voices soar above the orchestra, creating a powerful and uplifting sound.
The Credo is a complex and intricate piece, with multiple vocal parts and a challenging orchestral score. The Bates College Community Orchestra and the Mt Ararat and Lewiston High School Chorus rise to the occasion, delivering a flawless performance that showcases their musical prowess.
The Sanctus and Benedictus are perhaps the most beautiful pieces on the album. The choir's voices are ethereal, and the orchestra's strings and brass provide a grand and majestic accompaniment. The album concludes with the Agnus Dei, a hauntingly beautiful piece that showcases the choir's ability to convey emotion through their voices.
