Alasdair Roberts' latest album, "You Need Not Braid Your Hair For Me I Have Not Come A Wooing", is a beautiful collection of folk songs that showcase his exceptional songwriting and musical talent. The album is a mix of traditional and original songs that are performed with great skill and emotion.
The album opens with the haunting "Pangs", a song that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Roberts' voice is both powerful and delicate, and he uses it to great effect on tracks like "The Angry Laughing God" and "The Evernew Tongue". The instrumentation on the album is also excellent, with a mix of acoustic and electric guitars, strings, and percussion adding depth and texture to the songs.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Laverock in the Blackthorn", which features Roberts' beautiful fingerpicking on guitar and a soaring melody that is both uplifting and melancholy. Another highlight is "The Downward Road", a traditional song that Roberts has arranged in his own unique style.
