Whispered - Jikininki

Jikininki, the latest album by the Finnish melodic death metal band Whispered, has been a much-awaited release for their fans. The album, released on May 15, 2020, comprises nine tracks, each showcasing the band's proficiency in blending traditional Japanese musical elements with heavy metal.

The album opens with "Sakura Omen," a track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The thunderous drumming, shredding guitar riffs, and the soaring vocals by Jouni Valjakka are perfectly complemented by the traditional Japanese instruments like the shakuhachi and the koto.

The album's title track, "Jikininki," follows next, and it's a standout track with its catchy chorus and the excellent guitar solo by Mikko Mattila. The band's ability to create a unique musical soundscape is evident in tracks like "Tsukiakari" and "Metsutan - Songs of the Void," where the use of traditional Japanese instruments is prominent.

The album's production is top-notch, and the band's tight musicianship is reflected in the polished sound. The album's closing track, "Warriors of Yama," is a fitting end to the album, with its epic sound and the use of the traditional Japanese Taiko drums.
