Tough Jazz From Detroit by Various is an impressive collection of jazz tracks that showcases the best of the Detroit jazz scene. The album features a diverse range of jazz styles, including hard bop, soul jazz, and post-bop, all played with an unparalleled level of skill and passion.
The musicians featured on the album are all masters of their craft, from the driving rhythms of drummer Roy Brooks to the soulful saxophone of Yusef Lateef. The album also features some lesser-known but equally talented players, such as pianist Harold McKinney and trumpeter Marcus Belgrave.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Inflated Tear," a hauntingly beautiful ballad by pianist and composer Andrew Hill. The track features a stunning solo by Lateef, whose mastery of the saxophone is truly awe-inspiring.
